Greetings my dear family. Am I understanding Revelation 20:5 correctly? "The rest of the dead did not come to life until the 1,000 years were ended. This is the first resurrection." Doesn't this mean we will have to endure 1,000 years before we see our deceased loved ones again? I am so disappointed if this is the case. I thought we were taught that they'd be resurrected in order during the 1,000 year reign. Thank you for clarifying it for me as my research still leaves me to come to this conclu... moreGreetings my dear family. Am I understanding Revelation 20:5 correctly? In Luke 14:13; "But when you have a feast, call the poor, the maimed, the lame, the blind: And thou shalt be blessed; for they cannot recompense thee: for thou shalt be rewarded at the resurrection of the just." The resurrection of the just, revealed in this verse in Luke, and the resurrection of life are distinguished from the resurrection mentioned in John: John 5:29, "And shall come forth; they that have done good, unto the resurrection of life; and they that have done evil unto the resurrection of condemnation."
This verse reveals that a separation exists in the resurrection process. Resurrection was believed by the patriarchs. (Genesis 22:5, Job 19:25-27). It was revealed by the prophets. (Isaiah 26:19, Daniel,12:2,13; Hose a 13:14) Jesus restored life to the dead, and foretold His own resurrection. A resurrection of bodies followed the resurrection of Christ. (Matthew 27:52, 53) Apostles raised the dead. (Acts 9:36-41; 20:9, 10)
In the future there will be two more resurrections. All that are in the graves will be resurrected.
-John 5:28, "Marvel not at this: for the hour is coming, in the which all that are in the graves shall hear his voice, (vs.29) And shall come forth: they that have done good, unto the resurrection of life..."
-1 Corinthians 15:52, In a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trump: for the trumpet shall sound, and the dead shall be raised incorruptible, and we shall be changed. (Vs.53) For this mortal body must put on immortality.
-1 Thessalonians 4:14-17. Vs. 16 - " For the Lord Himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel and with the trump of God; and the dead in Christ shall rise first:"
Believers who have died, awaiting our Blessed Hope will be received.
They shall be taken by Christ at this time, at His second coming. 1 Corinthians 15:23, "But every man in his own order: Christ the first fruits; afterward they that are Christ's at His coming."
Revelation 29:6 "Blessed and holy is he that hath part in the first resurrection: on such the second death has no power, but they shall be priests of God and of Christ, and shall reign with Him a thousand years."
Revelation 20:11, " And I saw a great white throne... (vs. 12) And I saw the dead...and the dead were judged out of those things which were written in the books..."
These are the rest of the dead.
These are the unbelievers, facing the judgement. The believers are not going to be judged, except as to receive reward. See 1 Corinthians 3:11-15.
